Speculations. I dropped in on another pawn shop, not Fat Tony's, and they said they'd store a pawned vehicle in their lot, which is surrounded by a sturdy chain link fence, topped with sparkly concertina wire. In fact, they had to store it there: their insurance company wouldn't have it any other way. But Tony stored Beth's Hummer at his home, not his place of business. I'm thinking Beth and the fat man must be pretty tight; did they conduct this whole swap and re-swap off the books?
I'm also wondering what Beth could possibly have invested in. Why would she need a bundle of untraceable cash, and from an unscrupulous source, no less? So she gets this bundle, invests it in an overnight mutual, then recoups it within a day or two, and everything's back to normal.
I just don't see how there can't be something illegal going on. God, I wish I woulda never heard that gun go off! I hate mysteries. I hate it when I don't know what's going on, but I gotta find out.
I wish I could leave this one alone, but I can't. Kevin and Tiff live far enough away, and for the most part I've gotten over the bruising and humiliation I associate with them, so if my efforts dead-ended with them, I would be done.
But the other woman and her friend--Fat Tony--live pretty close by.* And her/their dubious activities are ongoing.
This trail is still fresh. I must continue to snuffle my bloodhound's nose along the topsoil. I must keep sniffing.
