A few years ago I read that what caused the Holocaust is that a young Hitler was either snubbed or insulted (depending on which Wikipedia entry you believe) by a man with a big nose--a Jew, no less--and the Furor never got over this slight.  Then I heard that 9/11 was caused by jealousy, that them hijackers had grown envious of our awesome American way of life, and finally they just couldn't take it anymore.

This got me to thinking:  these rationales or motives for perpetrating something awful share at least two features.

One, they're elegant--which is to say, as theories they expeditiously and concisely spotlight the heart of the matter in an easy-to-digest format.

And, two, once digested, you're done.  Why belabor the issue?

So let's not.

A few weeks ago I made a prediction concerning the Ducks of Oregon.  Yesterday they lost their third game, to those dastardly Trojans of southern California.  Click here if you need confirmation.
